Tactical Planning
| |
We are operating in an extraordinary environment, where the speed of business is nearly literally at the speed of thought. Reach for the mobile or the net and in seconds you can conduct business across the globe. Traditional business planning tools tend to be linear, sit on the shelf and only occasionally make it to the desk of someone who counts (ie the frontline team!). They have become redundant in these times of 'Business Unusual'.
Military planning suffered from the same issues as business. Commanders would create a plan based on their assumptions, training, experience and a little information. The plan was focused on getting everyone ready, in-place and equipped to push the start button. As in business, we line up the troops and push go; Business Plan tucked under our arm or on the shelf… Then things change. And change fast, and again…
The Military Appreciation Process was developed by a team of business analysts for commercial purposes originally and has been adopted as a powerful 'ongoing' planning process by the ABCA forces (American British Canadian Australian). Tactical Planning is about bringing a dynamic tool from the military context back into the business domain. It is an ongoing planning and management process that continually monitors the current environment and helps you identify and react preemptively to the dynamic business blur we all find ourselves in. Most importantly, it is simple, and can be completed in under 10 seconds or over days as required by the business issues or project.
